Creating a Language-Rich Environment

Language development is the simple most important predictor of later school success. Preschool teachers play a critical role in developing language by creating a language-rich environment in which children have multiple opportunities to engage in language activities. This presentation will discuss strategies for increasing vocabulary, developing phonological awareness, and encouraging print awareness and emergent writing skills. Set Two in LEC. Preschool.

Using traditional Japanese calligraphy kits, participants in this two-part workshop will learn and expand on the fundamentals of brush and ink painting. No prior experience is needed. Participants may want to incorporate their own color mediums, pencil, pen, watercolor or pastel into 9”x12” works on paper.

Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

We will experience about an 80% eclipse on the morning of the 14th. Billy O'Keefe is going to help us watch it happen. He's going to bring out his astronomy binoculars, his telescope with a special lense, and solar shades made just for such an event--they look like sunglasses, but are so much better!

If you plan on bringing more than yourself to this event, there is no need to register everyone individually. Simply register one point of contact for the group. It's like the old drive in movie model: $5.00 per carload, regardless of how many people are in the car.

First Aid CPR and AED - Hood River

The Heartsaver First Aid Course Teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical service personnel arrive. The course also provides a complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult/infant CPR, and Automated External Defibrillation AED. Course meets the State of Oregon daycare licensing requirement. American Heart Association (AHA) requires all students to have a copy of the course textbook to prepare for the course and to have it available for personal use. Students must bring a copy of the textbook to class. The book will be provided to you in class.

Homebuyer Education

This class is designed to help first-time homebuyers learn the basics about the home buying process. Learn the lingo and leave better prepared to successfully complete the home buying process. Course covers: housing decisions, financial preparation, shopping for a home, mortgages, avoiding fraud in lending, mortgages, closing, and maintaining your investment. Basket Weaving – Barbara’s Tote

The techniques you will learn in this basket are a standard start stop weave, twining for locking in the base, and weaving in leather straps. This particular basket is named Barbara’s Tote because it was originally designed for someone named Barbara. No discounts or waivers.

Aaron and Beth invite you to come learn about the amazing process of creating your own healthy Sourdough from scratch. Aaron Brenner is a 7th generation baker who owned his own bakery in the Seattle area for over 25 years. Beth Skobkariova is a teacher and avid home baker with a passion for nutrition. They come together combining their passion for baking and teaching to help you create your own amazing sourdough bread. In this course Aaron and Beth will explore the gluten structure, yeast lifespan, sough dough starter care, sough dough crust formation, and the advantages of different flours for health benefits.Students will need to arrive 10-15 minutes early to be ready to start at 6pm.
