Twisted Bowl Basket Weaving

Have you ever wanted to learn how to weave a basket? This is your chance to weave a Twisted Bowl. You will learn every step and leave with a completed Twisted Bowl. This basket uses a step up twill technique which is considered a continuous weave. The base of the basket is set up like the spokes of a wheel that are woven with a twining technique. We will be using reed from a woody vine out of Asia. These vines grow quickly and the material is wonderful for this type of weaving. No discounts or waivers.

Join us at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum, where you'll have a front-row seat to one of the most spectacular astronomical shows of the year—the Perseid meteor shower! Our amazing staff and OSU Master Naturalist volunteers will share with you the wonders of the night sky while you observe the meteor shower from a prime location with minimal light pollution. And that's not all! We'll also have educational talks, kid friendly-activities, and telescopes. So grab your friends, family, or anyone else who would enjoy this incredible experience and join us for a night of stargazing and scientific exploration that you'll never forget! Please bring blankets, chairs, and friendly dogs. Registration cost covers the entire family. When registering, please provide information for main contact. All participants will be required to sign in at the event. Event is weather dependant. If cloud cover is present by 10:00am of the event day, families will be notified of a move to August 19th. This course is hosted by Gorge Ecology Outdoors, in parntership with the Gorge Discovery Center & Museum and Columbia Gorge Community College.

Then join the NRCS and Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum for a day of restoring Chenowith Creek's natural habitat! This is a family-friendly event, so bring everyone along for a fun and informative day outdoors. You'll get to learn about the latest restoration efforts while lending a hand in removing invasive species and planting native plants. And if you have any questions, don't worry—our awesome team of Master Naturalist volunteers will be there to guide you every step of the way. This is a great opportunity to connect with nature, learn something new, and make a positive impact on our community.

Introduction to Citizen Science

Did you know that you can help scientists with their research projects? That's what Citizen Science is all about! By taking this course, you'll learn how to use your mobile phone to participate in exciting projects like identifying and tracking plant distribution, observing and recording bird migration patterns, and even studying the stars. By the end of this course, you'll be equipped with the skills you need to enhance your enjoyment of nature and make a real impact on scientific research. So join us and become part of the growing community of Citizen Scientists! The course is designed for adults in terms of content and presentation style, but we welcome all motivated high school-aged naturalists. Each participant will need a smartphone. There will be both indoor and outdoor activities, so please come prepared for the weather and be ready to walk on a ¼ mile-paved trail. This event is hosted by Gorge Ecology Outdoors, in partnership with Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum and Columbia Gorge Community College.

Market Basket Weaving
