Oregon Shakespeare Festival Experience

Are you interested in deepening your understanding of Shakespeare’s works? Would you like to travel to beautiful Ashland, Ore., Oct. 13-15, 2022, for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and enjoy a weekend of plays, discussions and other exclusive experiences, including a backstage tour? If so, contact Columbia Gorge Community College instructor Katy Jablonski at mjablonski@cgcc.edu to learn more. There are a limited number of spaces for this Oregon Shakespeare Festival field trip. This opportunity is available to CGCC students as well as members of the general public, who may sign up through Community Education. “This experience will broaden your intellectual understanding of The Tempest, King John, and Cymbeline as well as other works,” said Jablonski, who instructs English 203 at the college. The Heartsaver First Aid Course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical service personnel arrive. The course also provides a complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult/infant CPR, and Automated External Defibrillation AED. Course meets the State of Oregon daycare licensing requirement. American Heart Association (AHA) requires all students to have a copy of the course textbook to prepare for the course and to have it available for personal use. The book will be provided to you in class.

Knitting - Introduction to Stranded Colorwork

Also known as Fair Isle knitting, stranded colorwork has endless possibilities of making your knitting works of colorful art. We will practice different ways to hold your yarn while working two colors at a time as well as how to manage floats (the yarn carried at the back of the work). Materials: Lodgepole Hat pattern, available on Ravelry; size US #5 and US #7 16” knitting needles, or sizes to obtain guage; heavy DK to worsted weight yarn (amount depends on size you choose to knit). I recommend Blue Sky Fibres Woolstok, Berroco Vintage, or Malabrigo Rios. Homework: CO and complete ribbing

Archery

Learn the basics of shooting the bow and arrow, utilizing some of the techniques and methods that have been adopted by the Celilo Bowman Archery Club. This course is for people 12 years of age or older with the desire to shoot a bow and arrow, but have little or no experience. Learn archery shooting fundamentals while gaining knowledge about equipment options and choices. Note: all equipment will be provided by the Celilo Bowmen Archery Club, but you may bring your own. Closed toe shoes or boots required. 12-year-olds must have parent or guardian present. 13-17 must have parent or guardian sign waiver at start of first class, 18+ must fill out waiver at time of first class. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to first class to fill out paperwork. No discounts or waivers.

Knitting - Learn to Knit

This class is for the true beginner. You will learn all the essential knitting skills while making a hat. You will cast on, knit flat and in the round, purl, and decrease stitches to make yourself a stylish beanie. Materials: 150 yds of a light-colored, worsted-weight yarn; size US #8 straight needles; 2 pair US #8 circular needles; 10 stitch markers; 1 needle tip protector; 1 tape measure or ruler.
