Using traditional Japanese calligraphy kits, participants in this two-part workshop will learn and expand on the fundamentals of brush and ink painting. No prior experience is needed. The Market basket is approximately 8” square at the base and about 6” tall with a 12” tall wooden handle. You will learn everything you need to know to weave this basket and will leave class with a completed basket.

Students will learn the techniques for wrapping clothesline with fabric and building a basket (or bowl). They will learn how to shape the basket and finish it (beads, buttons, etc.). They will complete a small basket, approximately 3" high and 7" across. Students need to bring a sewing machine with zigzag capability (instructor can provide one machine for someone who doesn't have one) and have a working knowledge of using it. Students need to bring 1/2 yard of cotton fabric, cut on the bias in 3/4" strips (the cutting can be done in class if necessary). They will also need thread. Clothesline and glue will be provided.

The Bicycle Basket is approximately 4” x 9” x 8” with a pair of leather straps. You will learn everything you need to know to weave this basket and will leave class with a completed basket.
